Trip sign-ups for the 2026 Season will begin on January 6, 2026

New alumni trips will be posted both here and on the Sierra Club Activities and Events calendar periodically throughout the snowcamping season, and are also announced via the Snowcamping Alumni News email list (Alumni can subscribe to this moderated email list via the “Contact Us” page).

• Lassen National Park: Lake helen

Trip is Wait Listed.

Enjoy three days over President’s Day weekend exploring the area around Lake Helen in Lassen National Park. We’ll meet Saturday morning at the Southern entrance to the park, snowshoe to Lake Helen and set up camp. We’ll spend Sunday exploring the area. On Monday morning we will break camp and head back to the cars.

Distance: 4.5 miles, 1500 ft elevation gain with backpack to campsite and back. Hiking without packs between 3-4 miles.
Cost: $40 (includes $5 for wilderness permit), plus National Park entrance fee of $10 per vehicle or use National Parks Pass.

• Yosemite: Glacier Point Ramble

Yosemite Snowcamping: Hike to Glacier Point- Enjoy a long weekend in Yosemite National Park hiking to Glacier Point.  We will stay Thursday night somewhere nearby. Friday morning we will drive to Badger Pass and then snowshoe to the Taft Point area and set up camp.  On Saturday we will do a day hike from our campt to Glacier Point and back.  On Sunday morning we will break camp and head back to the cars. Must be Alumni of the SF Bay Chapter’s Snowcamping Training Series.  Trip limited to 10 participants

APPLY For Yosemite: Glacier Point Trip!

• Forestdale Divide Snowcamp

Join us for an easy early-spring snowcamp near Carson Pass, perfect for new alumni and busy schedules. From the Forestdale Creek trailhead, we’ll snowshoe south along the snow-covered dirt road, cross Forestdale Creek, and climb toward Forestdale Divide, traveling about 2–2.5 miles to our campsite. We aim to arrive by lunchtime, then use the afternoon to practice shelter building, test new gear, and explore the surrounding wilderness without our packs. On Sunday morning, we’ll break camp and return to the cars. Trip limited to 10 participants

APPLY For Forestdale Divide Snowcamp!

• Mount Shasta: Horse Camp

Trip is Active.

Snowshoe on the spectacular slopes of Mt Shasta.  From the 8000’ elevation of Horse Camp we have views up to the 14,162’ summit of Shasta — as well as marvelous vistas out west to Castle Crags, to the Trinity Alps, and the Pacific coast.  On Saturday morning, we’ll hike from Bunny Flat up Avalanche Gulch to the Sierra Club’s hut at Horse Camp, where we’ll set up our campsite (no horses involved!!).  We will then venture further up the mountain towards Lake Helen or circuit around the mountain, depending on snow and weather conditions No mountaineering is involved; the only skills/equipment required are snowshoes (or cross-country skis if preferred).

APPLY for  Mt Shasta Snowshoe

• Crater Lake, Oregon

Enjoy the winter scenery of beautiful Crater Lake. From the park headquarters we’ll ascend to the rim of the caldera to Rim Village and continue west taking in the views along the way. We’ll setup camp with views of Wizard Island. Saturday we’ll snow shoe along the western rim and around The Watchman, conditions permitting. Sunday break camp and return to the cars.

Distance: 4.25 miles with backpack to camp with approximately 1100 ft elevation gain and back. Saturday approximately 4-6 miles of snow shoeing with day packs.
Cost: $35, plus Crater Lake National Park entrance fee

Applications accepted after March 1, 2026. Signup on Campfire. Trip fee must be paid via PayPal after being accepted.

No tubular style snow shoes will be permitted, only snow shoes with crampons and excellent traction such as MSR EVO, Revo, or Lightening Ascent for example.
