Vaccinations: Per Sierra Club policy, you must be vaccinated before participating on a multiday indoor trip unless you have a negative PCR test 72 hours before your trip departure. Because the snow camping series includes two overnight trips, if you are not vaccinated, you will be required to have a negative PCR test 72 hours before each trip in order to attend that trip.
Vaccination proof can be provided by presenting the original card, a photo copy or a photograph of both sides of the original. Vaccination proof must be submitted with the medical form in order to be considered for the trip
Please note that, per this policy, it is possible that the trip will include people who are vaccinated and who are not vaccinated. You must make a personal assessment as to whether you wish to join the series or a given trip based on these policies.
Masking: You must bring a mask on the trip if you plan to use the snow kitchen that we typically build (most if not all participants choose to enjoy the snow kitchen). Whether to wear a mask during the outdoor portion of any trip is a personal decision. You may choose to wear one, but you are not required to do so. However, the Sierra Club requires mask wearing during indoor portions of any outing, and the snow kitchen is an indoor space for this purpose.
COVID Symptoms, Pre-Trip: If you experience any COVID symptoms (e.g., fever, chills, headache, cough, body ache, shortness of breath, loss of taste and/or smell) immediately before the start of the trip, you agree that you will not go on the trip. The snow camping section will work with you to find alternatives when you are no longer experiencing symptoms, either in this season or a later season as safety, space, and weather permit.
COVID Symptoms, During the Trip:
If you experience COVID symptoms (e.g., fever, chills, headache, cough, body ache, shortness of breath, loss of taste and/or smell) while you are on an overnight/multiday trip, let your leader know. Your leader will work with you on an appropriate plan, which may include isolation and/or walking you out and assisting to find you transportation home.
Post-Trip Testing: If your trip ends due to COVID symptoms, you agree that you will be tested for COVID and to report any positive test results to your leader. While maintaining confidentiality to the extent possible, leaders must report positive test results from participants occurring within 2-14 days of the outing to other participants so that they make take any appropriate steps.
Medical Form: Your previously filled out Medical Form, which you submitted when you applied to the Snow camping series shall be updated as any changes in circumstances require. Your leader(s) will bring your form to the trailhead so that you may update and initial that form prior to the start of the outing.
